New Work

So with the Labor Day weekend over, it's time for me to start looking for a new job. There's a lot of anxiety and excitement in that statement. I've spent the summer trying on different jobs in my head and I can rule out some things with confidence. I'm definitely not going to pursue the following:
* astronaut (scared of heights)
* sewer worker (don't like going underground)
* public safety officer (not brave, but oh, do I appreciate them!)
* car salesperson (don't like sales)
* musician (too late to become good)
* hairdresser (I'm an introvert and can't chat all day)
* large animal vet (allergy to horses)

My favorite "run away and join the circus" jobs include:
* driving a whale watching boat (do you drive a boat?)
* personal chef for Bruce Springsteen
* keeping a pub in rural England

If all else fails, I was an excellent waitress (now server) at one time in my life. I can always go back to that.

I'll put in a biased vote for working in a greenhouse or some plant-related venue: fresh air, plants, water, natural light, flowers, soil, and being around plant-loving people. Good exercise and a great education in gardening, too!

Of course, I LOVE the boat captain idea. :)

Well, I can certainly appreciate both the ones you've ruled out and the your dream jobs. And since I can't cook, if you go to work as personal chef to Bruce Springsteen, can I wait tables?

Good luck, RL. I know you'll be great at whatever you decide to do.

Thanks, Eero, BG,
Well I can't really cook either (although I have recently made an awesome from scratch banana cream pie) and have never piloted a boat. But a girl can dream!
